Founded in 2008 – OxSAR is a volunteer unit available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Oxfordshire Lowland Search And Rescue assists Thames Valley Police in locating lost or missing vulnerable persons such as children or the elderly, as well as working with partner teams in surrounding counties.
The team also work with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, supplementing their water rescue capability during times of flood and search and rescue operations on local water courses.
They are a self funding organisation, and we jumped at the chance to assist OxSAR where we could – subsequently supplying the team with 100 pairs of our Stealth™ 9000 Safety Spectacles and our Stealth Coverlite Overspectacles. Having spoken with Steve – Operations Lead, we were told that these products would be incredibly beneficial for use in wooded areas and whilst doing rope rescue work.
UK police forces received around 327,000 missing person reports in 2010-11. When someone goes missing, the police and emergency services refer to the local SAR teams in order to provide specialist search support.
The work that Oxfordshire Lowland Search And Rescue carries out truly does save lives. Respiratory and Technical Support Director Matthew Judson met and presented the team with their safety spectacles whilst they partook in their weekly evening woodland training.
Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue are funded entirely by donations. If you would like to support this incredible cause you can donate by texting ‘OXSR05 £5’ to 70070.
